A Star Witness is an entry in the Nancy Drew Clue Book series, aimed at younger readers. Nancy Drew finds herself on the case when an important item is stolen right before a local dog show. The main challenge is that the only person who might have seen the thief is a prize-winning dog, who acts as the titular "star witness." Nancy, Bess, and George must use clever observational skills and perhaps even dog treats to try and figure out what the animal is trying to communicate. They must investigate the suspects, who include rival owners and jealous trainers, to decipher the canine's clues and track down the missing item before the biggest competition of the year begins.
