The Witches is a classic fantasy novel that blends horror, dark comedy, and adventure. The narrator, an unnamed young boy, is staying in England with his kind, formidable Grandmamma (a retired Norwegian witch-hunter). They accidentally stumble upon the Annual Meeting of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, which is, in fact, a convention of all the witches of England, led by the terrifying Grand High Witch. The boy overhears their wicked plot to turn all children into mice. He is instantly transformed, but with the help of his Grandmamma, the boy-mouse sets out on a courageous, dangerous mission to stop the witches’ entire plan.
