The Twits is a grotesque and hilarious novel featuring the title characters, Mr. and Mrs. Twit, a married couple who are perpetually filthy, cruel, and obsessed with playing nasty, increasingly elaborate practical jokes on each other. Mr. Twit sports a disgusting beard full of old food, and Mrs. Twit has a glass eye and a constant scowl. Their maliciousness extends to trapping small birds on the "Big Dead Tree" with sticky glue and tormenting their caged pet monkeys, the Muggle-Wumps. The story follows the monkeys’ brilliantly coordinated plot for revenge, in which they team up with the Roly-Poly Bird to turn the tables on the repulsive Twits, creating a perfectly disgusting and satisfying act of poetic justice.
