Matilda is the story of a brilliant and precocious young girl named Matilda Wormwood, who is a genius with an insatiable love of reading. Unfortunately, she is stuck living with her crude, selfish, and television-obsessed parents and her dim-witted brother. Frustrated by her miserable, unappreciated life, Matilda develops a formidable intelligence and a growing sense of justice, which she exercises through a series of ingenious pranks against her family. The story escalates when she encounters the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and finds solace in her kind teacher, Miss Honey. Matilda eventually develops powers of telekenesis, which she uses to protect herself and her beloved teacher from the terrible adults in their lives.
