"Who Could That Be at This Hour?" is the first book in Lemony Snicket's All the Wrong Questions series, a prequel to A Series of Unfortunate Events. It introduces a younger Lemony Snicket as a mysterious apprentice working for a secret organization known as the V.F.D. He is sent to the fading, strange town of Stain'd-by-the-Sea to investigate a ridiculous, confusing, and possibly stolen object. The novel is a noir-styled mystery filled with Snicket's signature dry wit, bizarre characters, and meta-commentary on the nature of mystery itself.
