The Horse and His Boy is the third published (fifth chronological) novel in The Chronicles of Narnia series. The story is set entirely within the Narnian world and the hostile southern country of Calormen. The protagonist is Shasta, a young boy who believes he is the son of a fisherman, and his talking horse, Bree, who was captured as a foal and trained as a warhorse. Together, they plan a daring escape to the mythical land of Narnia, seeking freedom and self-discovery. Along their journey, they meet a Calormene noble girl, Aravis, and her talking horse, Hwin. The four companions overhear a plot to invade Narnia and must race across the unforgiving desert to warn the Narnian people before the attack begins.
