The magic tree house whisks Jack and Annie back to the vast, open Great Plains of the 1870s, where they find themselves in the middle of a gathering of the Lakota Sioux tribe. They have arrived just as the tribe is preparing for a buffalo hunt, a vital event for their survival and culture. The siblings learn about the traditions, customs, and deep spiritual connection the Lakota people share with the buffalo, which provides everything they need. Their adventure becomes thrilling and dangerous when they must find a specific object while simultaneously avoiding a stampeding herd of massive buffalo. They learn valuable lessons about respect for nature, different ways of life, and the history of the American West. They must rely on the guidance of their new Lakota friends to safely navigate the open prairies and complete their mission before returning to the tree house.
