Death Note, Vol. 3 marks a major turning point in the series with Light Yagami (Kira) executing one of his most audacious schemes yet: convincing L that he is a valuable asset to the investigation team. This allows Light direct access to sensitive information and provides the perfect cover to eliminate L. The volume also introduces a potential complication: Misa Amane, a popular idol who has obtained a second Death Note and is completely devoted to Kira, willing to do anything to aid his cause. This new character, with her own Shinigami and "Shinigami Eyes," which allow her to see peoples' names, changes the entire dynamic of the investigation and adds dangerous layers to Light's already complex plans.
