Something sinister is happening in Alfie's small town. Children are waking up in the morning to find not a shiny coin from the Tooth Fairy under their pillows, but instead a dreadful and disgusting 'gift': a dead slug, a live spider, or a handful of icky, creepy-crawly things. Alfie, a young boy who dreads the dentist more than anything in the world, becomes obsessed with finding the culprit behind these horrifying nocturnal events. All clues point to the creepy new dentist in town, a woman named Miss Root. She is impossibly glamorous, frighteningly stern, and has an unsettling obsession with perfectly white, straight teeth. Alfie is convinced she is the Demon Dentist, but no one, not even his kind-hearted friend Raj the newsagent, believes him. Alfie and his new friend Gabz decide they must take on the mystery themselves. The only way to prove her guilt is for Alfie to do the one thing he fears most: book an appointment with Miss Root, face his greatest phobia, and put himself in the chair to uncover her truly wicked, tooth-shattering plot.
