Ferno the Fire Dragon is the very first book in the entire Beast Quest series, introducing the young hero, Tom, and setting up his destiny to save the realm of Avantia. Ferno is a colossal, magnificent dragon whose body is wreathed in dark, consuming fire, making him almost impossible to approach. The quest takes Tom to the volcanic Peak of the Fire Dragon. To break the dark enchantment placed on Ferno by Malvel, Tom must overcome not only the Beast’s physical power and scorching breath but also the extreme heat and treacherous terrain of his lair. This foundational story establishes the series’ core mechanic: using courage, observation, and a magical item to free the Beast, rather than simply slaying it.
