Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is the direct sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The story begins immediately after Charlie Bucket wins the factory, as he, Grandpa Joe, and Willy Wonka launch themselves into space in the titular Great Glass Elevator. Their flight quickly becomes a chaotic cosmic adventure when they accidentally rendezvous with the Space Hotel, which has been infiltrated by the shape-shifting, deadly, and disgusting Vermicious Knids (Squid spelled backward). Upon returning to Earth, they must rescue Charlie’s incredibly old, stubborn grandparents from an accidental overdosing on Wonka Vita-Wonk, which has sent them backward in age.
