James and the Giant Peach is Roald Dahl’s first full-length children's novel, an eccentric fantasy adventure. The story follows James Henry Trotter, a young orphan living a miserable life with his two cruel, grotesque aunts, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. His life changes dramatically when he is given a bag of magical green "things" which he promptly spills near an old peach tree. The tree grows an enormous, magical peach, which becomes James's new home. Inside the peach, he meets a group of comically large, talking insects—including a Grasshopper, a Centipede, and a Ladybug. Together, they embark on a whimsical, transatlantic journey after the peach rolls away and floats into the ocean, encountering various bizarre adventures along the way.
