The magic tree house takes Jack and Annie back to ancient Greece, specifically to Olympia during the time of the first ancient Olympic Games in 776 B.C. They arrive just as the games are beginning and witness the impressive athletic contests, which are strictly for male competitors. Their mission is to find a valuable scroll. They quickly discover that women are not allowed to participate or even watch the games, a historical rule that frustrates Annie. Despite the rules, Annie disguises herself to get closer to the action, leading to a comedic and tense situation. They encounter a famous Olympian and learn about the intense training and fierce competition of the era. They must find the ancient artifact before the final event ends and the sun sets, learning about the origins of the games and facing a dramatic conclusion before successfully returning home.
