Asterix the Legionary (Album 10) is a side-splitting military comedy and a hilarious parody of army life. The adventure begins when Obelix's secret crush, the beautiful Panacea, informs them that her beloved fiancé, Tragicomix, has been forcibly conscripted into the Roman Legion. Determined to rescue him, Asterix and Obelix decide that the only way to infiltrate the vast Roman military and find Tragicomix is to enlist themselves. The two Gauls, powered by the magic potion, immediately turn the Roman training camp into a ridiculous, chaotic mess. They are joined by a colorful assortment of international recruits—Greeks, Britons, Egyptians, and others—turning the Legion into a multicultural melting pot of comedic frustration for the Roman Centurions. Their service takes them all the way to North Africa, where they participate in a ridiculously brief and decisive 'battle' against the rebellious Scipio. The entire premise is based on the unsuitability of the Gauls for the disciplined life of a soldier.
