Asterix and Obelix All at Sea (Album 30) begins with an unprecedented disaster: the theft of the magic potion cauldron from Getafix's hut! The thief is revealed to be a Roman slave, Spartacubus, leader of a band of escaped slaves who have seized a Roman galley and are sailing to safety. When Asterix and Obelix learn that the escaping slaves consumed all the magic potion to fuel their escape, the Gauls are forced to embark on an urgent, high-seas pursuit in a captured Roman galley to retrieve the secret of the potion. The quest takes them far across the ocean, leading them to the fabled, lost continent of Atlantis. During the journey, Obelix suffers a terrifying and permanent side effect from drinking an entire cauldron of the potion as a child: he is turned into granite, then into a small child, which forces Asterix to become the protective, responsible figure. This adventure features a memorable encounter with the famous pirates, whose ship is inevitably sunk. The core of the plot focuses on their stay in Atlantis, a mysterious, underwater land where everything is perfect, but boringly so. The Gauls must restore Obelix to his normal state and recover the potion's secret while dealing with the Romans who are also searching for the galley. The album is a fun, whimsical exploration of mythology and a testament to the strong, enduring friendship between Asterix and a temporarily-diminished Obelix.
