This first book introduces the world to the hilarious and outspoken kindergartner, Junie B. Jones. Junie B. is almost six, and while she is excited about starting school, she is dreading one terrifying thing: riding the massive yellow school bus. She decides, quite adamantly, that the vehicle is "stupid" and "smelly," and filled with "meanies" like the boy named Jim who pushes her. After a chaotic first ride to school, where she begins to make a new friend named Lucille, Junie B. becomes terrified of the ride home after hearing stories of chocolate milk being poured on kids' heads. Convinced the bus is a death trap, she devises a brilliant, albeit terrible, plan: she hides in a cupboard in her classroom until everyone leaves. After having a great time exploring the empty school, she needs to use the locked bathroom and must call 911 in a comical emergency, leading to her eventual, dramatic, but safe retrieval by her mother and the principal.
